The planet is invaded by aliens called Mimics. They have almost devastated the planet. But when they win a battle at Verdun, the Earth forces believe they have a chance at victory. So a major op is planned, and all soldiers are called in. William Cage, a Major in the Army who never saw any combat is asked to join. But refuses and even threatens his CO who in turn strips him of his rank and sends him to join a unit. They think that victory is in their grasp but the Mimics attack them before they could, killing them all. Cage manages to kill one of them before he dies but wakes up the day before. He tries to tell everyone what he knows but they don't believe him and when he dies he wakes up the day before again. He keeps on trying to warn them but to no avail. He notices Rita Vrataski, the hero of Verdun and tries to tell her what's happening to him. She tells him to see her when he wakes up, which he does. She tells him that the reason they won at Verdun is because the same thing happened to her. She killed a Mimic and it's blood entered her body and she would relive the day before and used her experience to beat the Mimics. Along with a scientist, they tell Cage that the Mimics are being led by something they call the Omega and the one he killed whose blood entered his body is what they call an Alpha who can relive the day when killed. They believe if they can locate the Omega and kill it they can beat the Mimics once and for all. So they tell Cage that the Alpha has some kind of link to the Omega so they believe Cage can see where the Omega is. But Vrataski lost the ability before she could find the Omega. Eventually Cage thinks he knows where the Omega is but to get to the Omega they have to survive the battle wherein they were all killed but no matter how much Cage warns her they always get killed. So they have to find another way to get to the Omega. Vrataski also warns Cage that if he gets wounded that he should kill himself because if he's wounded and gets a blood transfusion, he will lose the ability to relive the day, because that's what happened to Vrataski.
An alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop-forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Vrataski take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy!
I&#39;ve Never really been much of a fan of Tom Cruise. I don&#39;t really know why exactly I&#39;ve just never been a fan and when I first saw the trailers for Edge of Tomorrow I assumed it would be just another generic action movie. Now that I have seen this movie I am definitely ready to give Tom Cruise another chance because Edge of Tomorrow was actually really cool. Tom Cruise dies in a war against aliens and then wakes up the morning of the battle he dies in and starts all over. Emily Blunt is one of the only people that believes him and helps him understand whats happening. This movie is based off of a manga apparently but I&#39;d never heard of it before this movie&#39;s release so I don&#39;t know if it follows its source material at all or not.<br/><br/>Tom Cruise has definitely made some bad movies in the past but he is still a good actor. His and Emily blunts characters worked pretty well together both as a tag team in war and even as sort of a couple at some points. Watching Tom Hanks dying over and over again is pretty entertaining. It&#39;s kind of like that episode of Supernatural where Dean dies over and over again but not as funny and with a lot more sci-fi explosions. I&#39;m definitely not a professional film critic by any stretch of the imagination. I don&#39;t know all the ins and outs of movies like someone who is more professional would but I think I can pretty safely say that the writing, directing, and editing are all pretty well done in this movie without sounding like an idiot. I&#39;m also having kind of a hard time remembering all of the details of exactly what happened in the end because it is kind of up for interpretation which has been something that happens in some great movies. That sort of thing I personally think is a sign of good writing when done well. Obviously the ending is no where near as mind bending as movie&#39;s like The Shining but it was still pretty good.<br/><br/>So overall even though the basic plot of Edge of Tomorrow has been done before this it is a pretty good example of it being done well. Edge of Tomorrow is a cool and entertaining science fiction movie.<br/><br/>I&#39;m giving Edge of Tomorrow an 8/10
Cruise does one of his best performances. I really haven&#39;t been noticing before how he can take lot of more than the &quot;Top Gun&quot; gestures. The selection for the female main role is a shame. This actress, Blunt, is unknown to me and didn&#39;t convince her skills of acting. Paxtons lightweight side role is a nice tune-up (better than the one in The Colony).<br/><br/>Movie contains lot of humor which is intellect and works very well as situational comedy. As a matter of fact the movie offers much better content of comedy than most of the todays comedies that get the to see the daylight even in theaters.<br/><br/>Very nice movie, if you love sci-fi, action, comedy and little bit drama, this will surely be enjoyable film. Remember; these are movies and not to be taken seriously, you&#39;re missing the joy of the entertainment then.
Although the humor helps, the Groundhog Day-like repetition gets tedious; it makes you feel more like a hamster than a groundhog — or rather a hamster's wheel, going round and round, over and over again.
The film is based on the Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. When they were both killed in battle, Cage in the invasion of Normandy in France and Vrataski at the battle of Verdun, both were severely injured. Both had killed an &quot;Alpha&quot; alien mimic and when the Alpha&#39;s blood splashed on them and entered any open wounds they had, they gained the same power the Omega mimic had to loop time. Rita tells Cage that she lost her power when she received a blood transfusion while her combat wounds were being treated. She stated that she could sense the Omega and stopped sensing it before she could get to it, signaling an end to her power. Cage and Rita arrive at the Louvre, where they share a kiss, and then Rita lures the Alpha away while Cage dives into the pool with a belt of grenades. Though Cage is fatally injured, the grenades detonate, and the Omega is killed. However, the Omega&#39;s blood seeps into Cage&#39;s body. Cage wakes in the helicopter on his way to General Brigham&#39;s office, before he tried to blackmail the General. News arrives that there was an unexplained energy pulse detected in Paris and that the Mimics seem to have lost their ability to fight, implying that the Omega has been destroyed despite Cage&#39;s last time jump. Cage visits Vrataski who, from her point of view, is meeting him for the first time. Cage grins. That song is called &quot;Love Me Again&quot; by John Newman.
